These beautiful chess pieces are based on the traditional Staunton style but with a slightly more ornate flair about them. Sourced from our Italian friends, Italfama in Florence, we have called them The Trapani after the city in Sicily and without doubt, these chess men are a lovely addition to our chess piece range. Acacia wood is fast becoming a very popular material for chess men and these pieces are a perfect example of why it works so well.

This particular design is subtly elegant with the carvings a little more ornate than usual. In particular, they offer beautifully detailed and exquisitely carved knights. Each piece is perfectly weighted, have felted bases and are naturally polished to a soft sheen finish. They are beautifully presented in an Italfama branded presentation sturdy card box, with a protective insert that gives each piece its own compartment to keep them protected. These acacia chessmen are perfect for combining with playing boards of 18 inches (46 cm) or larger.

We have matched them here with a 17.75 inch, quality chess board produced by reputable chess artisan Rechapados Ferrer S.A. of Spain. High grade Walnut and Maple veneers have been used in its construction and modern fabrication techniques has produced a board with clean lines and critical detailing. The Walnut grain is simply seductive and a beautifully veneered wooden base adds the finishing touch.
These two components together create a wonderfully traditional style chess set but with the woods used, there is something about it that makes it that little bit more alluring.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
