We have sourced this particular set of pieces from Italfama in Florence, well renowned for their quality and good value for money products. These beautiful chess pieces have a slightly more ornate air about them but still easily recognisable as the traditional Staunton style. Called The Trapani after the city in Sicily, these chess men are a lovely addition to our chess piece range. Acacia wood is fast becoming a very popular material for chess men and these pieces are a perfect example of why it works so well.

This particular design is very elegant with the carvings being a little more ornate than usual. They offer really detailed and exquisitely carved knights in particular. Each piece is comfortably weighted, has a felted base and naturally polished to a soft sheen finish. Presented in an Italfama branded sturdy card box, with a protective insert, each piece has its own compartment to keep them all completely protected when not in use.

Size-wise, these acacia chessmen are perfect for combining with playing boards of 18 inches (46 cm). To create this stunning set, we have chosen the sublime black anegre and maple board with its beautifully grainy palisander border. Crafted by the famous board makers Rechapados Ferrer of Spain, this 19.7 inch board makes a perfect battle ground for the pieces and, despite the different woods involved, they all seem to work really well together.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
