The Down Head series of chessmen are turned from pieces of selected boxwood, single weighted and boast generous felting on their bases. With their solid ‘one piece’ carving, these pieces are perfect for years and years of chess playing. The darker side have been created using a process called ‘ebonisation’. This gives the treated pieces a look of ebony without the price tag. The chessmen have then been polished to a medium natural gloss by the same talented craftsmen responsible for some of the world’s highest quality chess sets. This finishing process ensures that every piece is of a standard far higher than is to be expected for this price.
