These Abingdon 3.5 inch chess men have a very high quality of finish and attention to detail and exceed all expectations on what you get from such a modestly priced set.

Crafted from solid boxwood, each piece has been expertly turned with the knights being hand carved only by the most experienced and talented of craftsmen.
To create the look of real ebony without creating the associated price tag, the boxwood pieces undergo a chemical ebonising process. They are then weighted for perfect balance and all bases are felted with billiard cloth to protect any playing surface.

The pieces offer superb value for money and to accommodate them, we have matched them with an equally superb mahogany board from Spain. With the 3.5 inch king, we have selected the 19.7 inch board from this particular range and with the 1.9 inch squares, the pieces sit perfectly. This design of board is something of a classic, with its clean and basic lines you will have seen similar in famous tournaments, often with famous players or celebrities sat either side.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
