The 1972 Reproduction Ebony Luxury Chess Set is a ‘retro meets contemporary’ combination of chess men created by the world’s finest carvers and a beautiful board created by the highly talented Rechapados Ferrer.
The pieces, expertly created from solid pieces of wood with beautiful carvings, are a reproduction of a set from 1972.
Between 11 Jul – 1 Sept 1972, the legendary World Chess Championship took place between defending champion Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union and challenger Bobby Fischer of the USA.
It took place in the Laugardalshöll arena in ReykjavÃk, Iceland. Two chess sets were used over the course of this tournament that is now known as the Match of the Century.
We have matched these pieces with the beautiful Spanish board constructed by Rechapados Ferrer, from quality veneers of black Anegre and maple woods. This contemporary look is a perfect playing area with the high gloss finish reflecting all the pieces beautifully.
The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
