These highly detailed and superbly finished Reproduction Staunton Ebony Chessmen 1869 Model boast an imposing 4 inch king including his royal finial. Supplied by the same chess workshop that produces some of the world’s finest chessmen, these chessmen have been turned from solid wood then painstakingly carved with exquisite detailing.
In particular, the knights and bishops are beautifully detailed and as reproduction pieces they also bear the original marks of the kings crown on 1 black knight, 1 black rook, 1 white knight and 1 white rook. Placed on the Kings flank, this was a practical innovation to identify their position on the King’s side of the board as, in descriptive chess notation, the rooks and knights were often referred to as being the ‘queens knight, or the ‘king’s rook’.

We have matched these lovely chess men the stunning 23.6 inch walnut and maple chess board created by the world famous Rechapados Ferrer of Spain. With the addition of a lovely handmade wooden storage box, this is a stunning combination of quality materials and expert workmanship offering amazing value for money. Please note that when the chessmen are placed in the box it is normal and intentional for them to lay down on top of each other. They are NOT intended to stand up inside the box.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
