These 1849 Reproduction Staunton Chessmen are highly detailed in the world famous and classic Staunton design.
With its 4.4 inch king, they are handcrafted in high quality ebony and antiqued boxwood and superbly finished.
These stunning pieces have been turned from solid wood then painstakingly carved with beautiful detailing. This is to be expected as they are supplied by the same chess workshop that produces some of the world’s finest chess pieces.
The king is an imposing figure at 4.4 inches, and along with his army, is perfectly weighted for balance with billiard cloth covered bases for board protection.
The ebony quality and unique antiqued boxwood makes this set, not only an enviable acquisition but also a good investment and heirloom for future generations.

Beautifully crafted by the world famous Rechapados Ferrer of Spain, this 23’6 inch board with its 2.36 inch playing squares, makes a perfect battlefield for the Reproduction Staunton Chess Men. High grade veneers of rich palisander have been utilised to create the stunning border around the black anegre and light maple squares in the playing area. The deep gloss lacquer finish not only protects the board but also accentuates the wood grain in the veneers.

Whilst not in play, you will want a storage container that matches the elegance and luxury of your board and pieces. We have therefore chosen the handcrafted solid Sheesham Wood Chess piece case. Also known as golden Rosewood, Sheesham wood is an exotic hardwood that is rich in yellow and red colour tones with a distinctive and beautiful grain. Inside you will find the green flocked compartment providing a safe space that will not scratch or damage your pieces. It is suitable for pieces up to 4.5 inches in height and therefore perfect for keeping your treasured chess men safe for many years.

To complete your set, we have included a traditional wooden chess clock with wind-up mechanism. These are made in Europe by BHB.

Please note that when the chessmen are placed in the box it is normal and intentional for them to lay down on top of each other. They are NOT intended to stand up inside the box.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
