Highly detailed and superbly finished, The Reproduction Staunton Ebony Chessmen 1869 Model boasts an imposing 4 inch king including his royal finial. Supplied by the same chess workshop that produces some of the world’s finest chessmen, these chessmen have been turned from solid wood then painstakingly carved with exquisite detailing.
The knights and bishops are particularly beautiful and as reproduction pieces they also bear the original marks of the kings crown on 1 black knight, 1 black rook, 1 white knight and 1 white rook. Placed on the Kings flank, this was a practical innovation to identify their position on the King’s side of the board as, in descriptive chess notation, the rooks and knights were often referred to as being the ‘queens knight, or the ‘king’s rook’.
These lovely chess men will sit perfectly on boards of 20 inch (50 cm) or more
