Product Description
This fine chess set combines our excellent Down head Staunton chess pieces and our deluxe walnut board. The chess pieces have been expertly turned from graded boxwood and sheesham wood, are weighted and felted and have very good balance considering their size and base diameter. The level of detail and the quality of the finish is without flaw, the edges are crisp, the curves even and the uniformity of the pieces is excellent. The boxwood and sheesham are both extremely hard woods and lend themselves extremely well to the natural polished finish.
Â
The chessmen sit proudly on our walnut and maple deluxe chess board, a veneer board that has been manufactured in Europe to exacting standards. The board is consistent and without flaws. It has a uniform satin finish that will withstand many years of use. The tones of the walnut are a perfect match for the sheesham chessmen and make this set highly attractive and stylish while retaining its traditional Staunton roots. A lovely product made from natural materials that has been built to last decades, not years.
The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
