Down Head Black Grand Championship Chess Set

This beautiful chess set combines our 19 inch Maple and Mahogany chess board with the superb 3.25 inch Down Head chess men. A neat storage box is also included and is the perfect size to house the chess men. The Board is a European made veneer type with finely inlaid squares. It’s a clean design that has been crafted to exacting standards and a robust and heavy chess board that will provide years if not decades of use. The Chess men are very well weighted Down head Staunton pieces in Boxwood and ebonised Boxwood. Each piece has internal weighting and generous felting on the base. They have been crafted from the finest boxwood and the dark pieces ‘ebonised’ to take on a highly convincing ebony appearance. The chess men fit perfectly in the birch wood chess case that is included in this set.

Please note that when the chessmen are placed in the box it is normal and intentional for them to lay down on top of each other. They are NOT intended to stand up inside the box.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
